Walls!

Image
Walls? Yeah, working on walls it seems. Took me a while to understand how anything worked. Asking the internet did not help. But it turns out that the orgin of objects you make in Crocotile is set when you make the object, and wherever your crosshairs are at the time. Well, this took... 6 hours. Whew. But I'm still working on it. Figured out about high graphics texture so I can fix the colors. The colors are now accurate.

Doodles

Image
Who even knows where this is going. Actually like the darker color better than this., on the ground level. Depression is hitting me hard though. Not going to do too much today I think.

I'm back.

So Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck and killed by a gun. Today is September 11th. Tomorrow is Nintendo Direct. I am just saying these things for historical posterity. *** Being a Millennial is wild. For sure. Irony, Post Irony, Sarcasm. What even makes sense anymore? I don't know. But you aren't reading this blog because you want philosophy – or my feelings. Too bad, you are going to get some of that. But I will semi-promise I will keep in mind your time. Lets get onto it... *** Check this shit out. A store. Made of 3D objects that I drew and made. A different view. Wet floor sign? Sode Soda? An ATM? Ice Machine for Outside. A claw Machine? I want to see how far I take this. Time to buckle up.

Rug and a Big Room!

Image
A rug? An empty room?     We just keep stabbing at the dark until we find purchase. One step at a time, one little small doodle at a time. Soon enough we'll make enough things that it will start to look like something. It's like making a clay bowl, but we have to create the clay out of a bunch of atoms and stick them together in the right way. Once we get enough clay, we can form that vase.     I also started to write a magazine artical for the tabletop roleplaying game "Deadlands", as just a means to excerise my mind and do some writting. It will go on the next episode which is quarterly.

Market Stall and Flat Objects

Image
This is an incomplete market stall.      So why flat objects in the market stall boxes? I don't know. I am unsure if I like it. But for now, I think its approprate. I will have to see how it looks like in an enviroment space. Rendered in Unreal this time. Still a little weird, but you get the idea.      I think this really invokes some interesting low-poly vibes. Its like... high-fi N64 graphics. I'm sort of down for it really. We'll see where it takes me. One of the tilesets as you can see, shown off by Chaska the Magic Dog.

How to Make a Palm Tree (Part 2)

Image
Back with another talk about the trees I am working on. Adding more leaves requires me to shape the leaves above the "pile" as to ensure I don't mess up the other leaves. As you can see, I've added more leaves. A single leaf is above the "pile" being shapped. Trying to fill it out nicely. Do we think it has a nice head of hair? Lets try one more well-placed leaf...     The last step is the hardest in a way... I have to give it the one-over, and see what it's missing. For starters, I do actually think it's missing the trunk roots. You can see, actual palm trees got this cool thing going on... Splits open, and has visable roots. Look at this! It's looking about right! Now I must scour the tree and see how much I really like it.      Well, that's it. Thanks for reading. Oh, I guess I forgot to mention, All of the tiles for crocotile were made by me, I drew a bunch of leaves and the textures. I might explain 3D textures and my technique i...

How to Make a Palm Tree (Part 1)

Image
In this terrible guide, I will be showing you how I made the palm tree.      First we start off with a simple stalk. This is done using my tileset, and some finagling. Basically this is a weirdly attached octogonal prism that is broken up into skinner prisms to give the "tiered" effect. Notice that it isn't perfect, that is intentional. Plants are allowed to be a little weird, that's what gives it character. Nice Straight Stem.      Second off, we got to bend the stalk to our will. Nothing too crazy on our first tree, we can get some crazier bends on other trees, but for now, lets keep it simple. Firm with a little give.      Third, we start the leaf process with a simple layer of base leaves. Small leaves inside to give the illusion of some depth, I will likely go back and add a few more "under layer" leaves just to fill the center out. 4 inside leaves for thicc-ness.      To me, this looks like a good under base spread. I wil...

Working with 3D plants

Image
Been modeling some low-poly 3D plants. The program being used is Crocotile, and it doesn't do transparancy well except in the case of full transparancy. This is why you see the artifacts on the edges of the leaves. This is fine, as Unity renders it a lot better and makes it smooth. So far, all I have been doing is experimentation.
