Walls!

Image
Walls? Yeah, working on walls it seems. Took me a while to understand how anything worked. Asking the internet did not help. But it turns out that the orgin of objects you make in Crocotile is set when you make the object, and wherever your crosshairs are at the time. Well, this took... 6 hours. Whew. But I'm still working on it. Figured out about high graphics texture so I can fix the colors. The colors are now accurate.

Rug and a Big Room!

Image
A rug? An empty room?     We just keep stabbing at the dark until we find purchase. One step at a time, one little small doodle at a time. Soon enough we'll make enough things that it will start to look like something. It's like making a clay bowl, but we have to create the clay out of a bunch of atoms and stick them together in the right way. Once we get enough clay, we can form that vase.     I also started to write a magazine artical for the tabletop roleplaying game "Deadlands", as just a means to excerise my mind and do some writting. It will go on the next episode which is quarterly.

Making Objects in Crocotile

The classic box. A bucket! I love LAMP!     Obviously...  I'm currently working on objects.

Shadow "Solved"

Image
No more light bleed.      It can be solved. But no in anyway you'd think. Unreal cannot properly handle lighting with objects that have 0 thickness to them. Unfortunetly, my tiles that I had been working with in Crocotile cannot render properly when they are just "curtains" like this.     The solution? Well. I can add a retangular prism, the length of the curtain along the base of the object. I can keep it thin, and thus hidden, you can't see it. But it solves the light problem.

Oh No... Pixel Bleed?

Image
I just learned about Pixel bleed. See that greenish line? You cab even see where I cut the tile in the middle and where the door itself is a separate tile. Its not good! Yeah. Turns out... I can't be doing my tiles like this...      See how my bricks touch empty space? Causes bleed. I need to seperate my tiles. So they bleed into themselves. It may require more tilesets to be created, but its likely to be the best method.      I am going to need to develop an organizational system for this. Likely: Tileset_CityHouse_Roof.png as an example.      I wrote all this on the toilet. I wasn't feeling good. But this helped.

Making more Models

Image
Making furnishing for inside of a islander's home.     A very simple update, but, I had begun making objects for the island homes. Can't wait to see how they look in Unreal.

3D modeling?

Image
As you can see, I have been working on some low-poly 3D modeling. The pictures shown are of a tileset that I drew, and put into a 3D modeling program called "Crocotile 3D"      My review of Crocotile real quick. YOU WILL HATE THE PROGRAM , until you go into the options and fix some settings. There are a lot of unintuitive things about the program that the options will remedy, but because the program itself doesn't have those features turned on standard, I think its a very bad first move and will turn people away from the program itself. But over all, its intuitive enough for what I need, so I am going to use it. And so far... I am liking it!      If I get brave enough in the future, we will consider going to blender and seeing what's up. Consider this post my first real Dev Update.
